This standard covers spray booths for the application of organic liquid coating materials.
Under the section on fire it requires the following:
All spray booths processing organic flammable materials shall be equipped with a manually or automatic operated fire extinguishing system.
The installation of an automatic extinguishing system depends on the size of the booth, the presence of an operator and the risk of fire.
All automatic booths shall be equipped with an automatic fire warning system.
Automatic booths where electrostatic application is done shall be equipped with an automatic fire extinguishing system.
The CENELEC standard EN50176 states that electrostatic spray equipment of type B & C shall have a local automatic fire extinguishing system.
